These extremely long sentences are handed down to insure that under no circumstances whatsoever will these scumbags ever be released from prison. One example - in 2007, a young female school teacher was sentenced to serve 27 years in prison just because she took & uploaded photographs of protesting monks and students being beaten up by soldiers. Killing a police (or an obvious attempt), provided the officer is known to be an officer and in the line of duty, should carry a very serious penalty, however, I am against creating an elite class of citizen against whom a crime carries a more serious penalty than a "commoner".
